Sometimes it is necessary for you, as a writer or author, to know the exact number of words or characters in your text, for example, when you publish a text and give instructions or when you commission a proofreading (most editors calculate on the Base of words or characters including spaces). In the following, I would like to briefly show you how to count the words or characters of a text or count the PC. You’ll see, it’s easy!
Calculate the number of words and characters in Word
Open your file in Word and click on the “Review” tab at the top. Then click on “Count words”.
Now Word not only shows you the number of words and the number of spaces with or without spaces, but also the number of pages, paragraphs and lines.
If you write a scientific text (essay, bachelor thesis or master thesis etc.) the small box at the end of the list is still interesting for you. If you put a check mark there, Word counts the footnotes or endnotes.
Determine the number of words or characters online
If you want to find out the number of words or characters of a web text, you can use various online tools, for example the character counter (thanks to the Communication Facebook team for the hint).
